In addition to being able to eat fantastic vegan or vegetarian food at our Golden Temple, our restaurant in Amsterdam Centre also has a story. Our restaurant is named after the famous Sikh temple in Amritsar, which is located in the Punjab state in the north of India. The place where the temple now stands was originally a small lake surrounded by a small forest. The lake was expanded and a small community settled around the lake under the leadership of the fourth Sikh guru Ram Das (1574-1581). The construction of the temple began in 1581 and the temple was completed in 1589. The complex around the temple was completed in 1604.

This beautiful temple in India receives more than a hundred thousand visitors from all over the world daily. The temple complex has four entrances, symbolizing the importance of acceptance and openness. Everyone who wants to visit the Golden Temple is welcome, regardless of their religion, skin color, race, or gender. The only restrictions of the temple complex are that visitors may not bring alcohol, drugs, meat, or cigarettes into the sanctuary.
